Social Media for Social Change? Imagine that.

Hey Change Agents!  As long as you're building your personal brand, AND you're engaged in Social Media this quarter, why not combine both and really become effective at putting forth the social change that makes your heart go pitty-pat.

Here are some videos that just might make this transition a little smoother:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpEcjmAQDe4  Parker Palmer, A Movement Model of Social Change

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YBEhY8d8lE&feature=related  Parker Palmer, elaborating on his book, The Courage to Teach and to Lead

Enjoy.  Think.  Learn.  Go forward and do your good works.  Today.  And everyday after.

  1. Karen,

I just watched the Parker Palmer video on relationship between teaching and leading that you recommended. He articulates it quite well: teaching as a form of leading, and leadership including the necessity to become a good teacher. One of the common factors is dealing with fear--on the teacher and leader's part, and on the student and follower's part.

And there is the fear of putting forth one's social change effort. Yes, there is that. I feel supported by Chris, the TAs, and the students in the BGI Social Media class to do just that. Thank you for your post!

  2. Karen,

Thanks for those videos, I still have yet to try twitter out, been working up the courage but I'm worried it will consume too much time.

As far as I know Karen, you are a rock star and your change project probably rocks! Sometimes you just gotta roll the dice and put it out there, ya know? Fail fat, ship early and often. I failed completely with my app building attempt, we adapted though and still came up with some pretty cool stuff and plan to continue working on the app over the winter break. It's all about what you do with the cookie crumbs after it crumbles :-).
